For Venus Envy, this installation was created along the themes of empowering women. In my own reflection of this topic, my overwhelming feeling was that a woman's classical roles in contemporary culture were worth celebrating, as they were still very important, but were probably among the most under-rated in terms of measurable influence. I chose the scene of a dinner party to illustrate this sentiment, using the table as the most highly decorated object in the room, being the center of attention, the most entertaining, surrounded by dull, listless objects gaining ground in their own beauty by its presence and object that reflected light (aluminum tile) to create an atmosphere of magic and eccentricity. Additionally, there are shoes (found objects in slip) lining the front boundary of the installation, signifying that the children of the house can and do look up to domestic situations of power, and that a family can raise a strong child in many facets by celebrating a woman's classical roles, even in a culture where women are being challenged to leave those roles behind.
